The scientific name of FRP is fiber reinforced plastic, commonly known as FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastics), which is fiber reinforced composite plastic. According to the different fibers used, it can be divided into glass fiber reinforced composite plastic (GFRP), carbon fiber reinforced composite plastic (CFRP), boron fiber reinforced composite plastic, etc. It is a composite material with glass fiber and its products (glass cloth, tape, felt, yarn, etc.) as the reinforcing material and synthetic resin as the matrix material. Fiber reinforced composite material is composed of reinforced fiber and matrix. The diameter of the fiber (or whisker) is very small, generally less than 10μm, with fewer defects and smaller, and the fracture strain is within 30/1000. It is a brittle material that is easily damaged, fractured and corroded. Compared with the fiber, the strength and modulus of the matrix are much lower, but it can withstand large strains. It is often viscoelastic and elastoplastic, and is a tough material.

The concept of composite materials refers to a material that cannot meet the requirements of use, and needs to be composed of two or more materials combined together to form another material that can meet people's requirements, namely composite materials. For example, although a single type of glass fiber has high strength, it is loose between the fibers and can only withstand tension, not bending, shearing and compressive stress, and it is not easy to be formed into a fixed geometric shape. It is loose soft. If they are glued together with synthetic resin, they can be made into a variety of hard products with a fixed shape, which can withstand tensile stress as well as bending, compression and shear stress. This constitutes a glass fiber reinforced plastic matrix composite material. Because its strength is equivalent to steel, it also contains glass components, and it also has the same color, shape, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, and heat insulation properties of glass. Like glass, this easy-to-understand name "FRP" has been formed in history. This term was introduced in 1958 by Comrade Lai Jifa, the former Minister of the Ministry of Building Materials Industry, and expanded from the building materials system to the whole country. The meaning of FRP refers to reinforced plastic with glass fiber as a reinforcing material and synthetic resin as a binder. It is called glass fiber reinforced plastic abroad. With the development of my country's FRP business, as a plastic-based reinforcement material, it has expanded from glass fiber to carbon fiber, boron fiber, aramid fiber, alumina fiber and silicon carbide fiber. Undoubtedly, the reinforced plastic made of these new fibers , Are some high-performance fiber-reinforced composite materials, which cannot be generalized by the common name of FRP. Taking into account the origin and development of history, glass fiber reinforced plastic composite materials are usually used. Such a name is more comprehensive.
